Aston Villa extended their barren run in front of goal against Everton as their winless start to the Premier League season continues.
Unai Emery’s side sit second-bottom of the Premier League table four games into the new campaign after two losses and draws apiece, both of which have been 0-0 either side of 1-0 and 3-0 defeats.
Aston Villa are the only club in England’s top four divisions yet to find the net this term despite having the attacking talent of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, Evann Guessand and Donyell Malen to choose from.
All four of those attackers featured in Saturday’s stalemate against Everton as Villa produced just 0.54 xG, and with most of their injured players at present being defensive-minded, it’s unclear where Emery will turn to next.

Marco Bizot and the returning Emiliano Martinez have each kept clean sheets with Villa relatively solid in defence this season other than a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace, with most of their problems further forward.
Villa’s defence were able to keep a new-look Everton attack at bay, but the travelling fans had to watch on as Premier League player of the month Jack Grealish continued his new lease of life on Merseyside.
Grealish‘s performances this season have given Villa fans a stark reminder of what they’re missing in the final third, and Tyrone Mings posted on Instagram to bemoan his own lack of potency in Everton’s box.

Rogers responded with a ‘heart’ emoji to the centre-back’s message, which said; “Another clean sheet for the team at a tough place to go.
Second pic suggests I should probably be scoring more goals too”.

Football Insider Verdict
Watkins and Rogers have been two of the Premier League’s form players across the last 18 months, yet they were at the tip of a largely toothless Villa attack, bolstered by Guessand, Malen and Harvey Elliott.
Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Aston Villa could be forced to sell Rogers in the near future as PSR issues continue to hamstring Emery’s efforts, having already limited their summer activity.
Restricted to an outlay of little over £30million and the bulk of that being spent to sign Guessand from Nice, Emery may be unsure if his current crop of players are capable of navigating multiple competitions this season.
